King Systems, Noblesville, IN, is pleased to report that a new automated manufacturing line has recently produced its one millionth King Flex2 circuit. After a smooth start-up phase, the state of the art manufacturing line has drastically improved quality and production capacity.

The King Flex2 is an expandable single-limb anesthesia breathing circuit. It incorporates all of the best features of King Systems’ other single-limb breathing circuits into one innovative, space saving product. The King Flex2 breathing circuit’s flexibility enables it to expand, compress and hold its shape to relieve torque on the patient end and to accommodate the widest range of clinical applications, from the operating room through transport to either PACU or CCU.

Pete Graham, Lead Engineer– Equipment Launch, said: “The creation of the King Flex2 Automation Line has been an extremely exciting project to work on. It has shown what a great team can achieve. The team has pursued excellence in ensuring the quality of the parts and yielded a steep increase in production levels right from the onset. The group’s pursuit for perfection has really pushed this project forward in a short span of time. The new line is a fantastic addition to our company. It produces very high quality King Flex2 circuits much more efficiently than we were able to do so before.”

The engineering and operations teams are now turning their attention to installing automated manufacturing lines to produce King Systems’ inflatable anesthesia face masks and breathing bags. These projects are anticipated to be fully operational in the third quarter of 2012.

King Systems is a leading manufacturer and distributor of nearly 2,500 airway management, anesthesia and respiratory products. Innovative, best-in-class product lines include the King Vision® video laryngoscope, breathing bags, breathing circuits, medical face masks, oxygen delivery adaptors, non-rebreathing circuits, carbon dioxide absorbers, filters, HMEs and critical care breathing circuits.

Gregg D’Antonio is a King Systems Sales Representative whose territory includes Pennsylvania, and who has recently had an amazing experience sharing the King Vision™ with paramedics in Haverford, Pennsylvania. Lately, the King Vision™ has been creating a buzz of excitement with health care professionals all over the world. One individual in particular has experienced great success with King Systems’ newest innovation. Gregg tells his story below:

I recently received a phone call from the Haverford, PA Chief of Paramedics, a gentleman named Jim McCans. Jim informed me that he had seen the King Vision™ at a workshop that one of my customers held and he was interested in me showing it to his whole crew, as he wanted one on every truck. He also informed me that he had a special challenge for me: a young man named Chase Frost.

Chase Frost was 20 year old fireman in 2007, when he went on a call for a row home fire. While working to put out the fire, the interior of the row home collapsed with Chase under it. Chase survived, but unfortunately lost an arm and leg in the collapse. He went through a difficult four years of surgeries and rehabilitation to be where he is today.

As soon as Chase was physically able, he started taking paramedic classes. In order to pass his paramedic classes, Chase has to be able to intubate a patient. However, due to his prostetic, he cannot use a metal laryngoscope to intubate. Determined, Chase continued to try to figure out a way to intubate using a conventional laryngoscope.

At one point, Chief McCans saw him practicing intubation in the fire house so intensely that he was sweating with frustration. Chief McCans, as an Iraq veteran with a soft spot for amputees, took Chase under his wing. Chief McCans has spent the last few months trying every intubation system on the market, but Chase couldn’t grip any of them properly. He even went as far as to have a machinist build him a makeshift prosthetic to help him hold a few of them.

So, on the day of the appointment at the Haverford, PA fire house, I got to meet Chase. I introduced him to the King Vision™ and showed him how quickly and easily it can be used to intubate. After the demonstration, I handed the device over to him.

He intubated on the first try.

If you could have seen his face when he was able to intubate with his prosthetic, you would have gotten the chills like I did. He had the whole crew cheering for him because they know how hard he has worked to get to where he is today.

Below is a photo that Chief McCans took of Chase’s first intubation with the King Vision™.

King Systems, in its quest for relentless innovation and world-class customer service, launched an on-line catalog to meet the needs of its growing international sales volumes and customer base. The recently launched eCatalog is the latest milestone in the ongoing commitment to King Systems’ international presence and acknowledges the importance of providing accurate and reliable information to an increasing population of internet savvy customers.

Jeff Ball, King Systems’ International Business Unit Manager, said, “This is an important innovation, not only for King Systems International distributors, there are more than 50 now worldwide, but also to the healthcare professionals around the world that use our products. This eCatalog will give customers exposure to our full and constantly expanding product portfolio”.

Features of the eCatalog include the ability to select and send “products of interest” lists to a King Systems Sales Representative, domestically or internationally. Integration with King Systems’ customer relationship management (CRM) system distributes the ‘Sales Contact’ request to the Sales team for prompt follow-up.

Pat Coleman, King Systems’ Vice President of International Sales and Marketing, added “King Systems’ international presence continues to grow. We have expanded our sales and marketing presence substantially over the past 18 months. The eCatalog is our most recent innovation and one we are very excited about. Our team at King worked very hard to get this to our customers in time for our most important US anesthesia congress in October and will be demonstrated quite extensively at the MEDICA conference in Germany later this month.”

King Systems, a Consort Medical company, is a global leader in medical device manufacturing providing high-quality, innovative products. King Systems delivers life saving solutions to enhance better patient care.

King Systems is pleased to announce the launch of its King VisionTM Video Laryngoscope, the world’s first cost-effective, portable video laryngoscope.

Last year over 40 million anesthesia procedures were performed worldwide using a plastic endotracheal tube to help patients breathe during surgery. This procedure, typically performed by an anesthesiologist to protect the airway, takes just a few moments but requires the use of a metal lever-like device called a laryngoscope to provide a clear pathway for the tube. The anesthesiologist must manipulate the soft tissues to directly see the vocal cords, which is not always possible with all patients.

King Systems’ innovative solution, the King Vision Video Laryngoscope, incorporates a camera in the tip of the disposable device and an attached reusable video display which allows the clinician a clear view of the vocal cords without manipulating and potentially damaging soft tissue, easing the process and simplifying the procedure.

“Direct laryngoscopy has been effective and inexpensive for over 75 years; however, the view is often compromised, the maneuver is physical, and the placement must be directly observed by the clinician. The King Vision is a new digital technology that will revolutionize the way intubations are performed around the world. We are extremely proud to be able to bring this potentially life saving device into the realm of every day routine intubations,” said Don Dumoulin, CEO of King Systems.

King Systems, a Consort Medical company, is a global leader in medical device manufacturing providing high-quality, innovative products. King Systems delivers life saving solutions to enhance better patient care.
